This mantra restores health, happiness and brings calmness in the period of death. It is also called the Rudra Mantra, referring to the furious aspect of Shiva, as well as the Tryambakam Mantra, alluding to Shiva’s three eyes. Known as the Moksha Mantra of Lord Shiva, Maha Mrityunjay evokes the Shiva within and removes the fear of death, liberating one from the cycle of death and rebirth. The Mantra is a centuries old technique of connecting one to pure consciousness and bliss. Chanting the Mahamrityunjay mantra with complete faith and dedication over a prolonged period of time can give victory over any evil and even over death or give moksha (liberation). The Mahamrityunjaya mantra japa is said to rejuvenate, bestow health, wealth, a long life, peace, propsperity and contentment. This mantra is said to have great power that can give protection against negative forces. It is a mantra that has many names and forms. It is also believed that to overcome the fear of death, Lord Shiva himself gave humanity the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. The Sanskrit word Maha means great, while mrityu means death and jaya means victory. It is called the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, the Great Death-Conquering mantra.

It is said that untimely death can never occur to those who worship Shiva. It is a great death conquering mantra, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is hailed by the sages as the heart of the Rigveda. Manipura chakra is the solar plexus, the seat of Prana Shakti. As the ripened cucumber (urvarukamiva) is liberated (bandhanan) (‘by the intervention of the farmer’) from its bondage to the creeper when it fully ripens, may He liberate us (mokshiya) from death (mrityor), for the sake of immortality (mamrritat). When the Mahamrityunjaya mantra is chanted, Manipura Chakra is activated. We worship Shiva - The three-eyed (triyambakam) Lord (yajamahe), who is fragrant (sugandhim) and nourishes (pushti) and grows (vardhanam) all beings. Urvarukamiva bandhanan mrrityormokshiya mamrritat. The Mantra goes beyond just the temporary. The name of the Mantra translates to The Great Victory over the Great Death.
